Manual Ball Valve

The main components of a ball valve include the valve body, ball, seat, stem, and drive mechanism. The valve body is typically made of metal or non-metallic materials, housing internal components and connecting to the pipeline system; the ball is the valve's core component, featuring a smooth surface and excellent sealing performance; the seat supports the ball and enhances sealing effectiveness; the stem connects the ball to the external drive mechanism, transmitting torque to operate the valve.

Based on different applications and design characteristics, ball valves can be categorised into various types, such as floating ball valves, fixed ball valves, three-way ball valves, full-bore ball valves, and reduced-bore ball valves. Each type of ball valve has specific application ranges in terms of usage scenarios, pressure ratings, and fluid characteristics. For example, floating ball valves are suitable for low-pressure applications, while fixed ball valves are more suitable for high-pressure conditions; while three-way ball valves are commonly used in pipeline systems requiring fluid diversion or mixing.

The advantages of ball valves are highly prominent: first, they are easy to operate, requiring only a 90-degree rotation to quickly complete opening or closing actions; second, ball valves have excellent sealing performance, maintaining reliable sealing effects under high-pressure, high-temperature, or corrosive medium conditions; additionally, ball valves have low fluid resistance and typically large bore sizes, significantly reducing energy loss. Therefore, they are widely used in industries such as petroleum, chemicals, natural gas, water treatment, and food processing.

However, ball valves also have certain limitations. For example, in throttling applications, due to their design characteristics, ball valves may experience seal face wear caused by fluid impact, so they are not recommended for long-term use in partially open states. Additionally, ball valves made of certain special materials may have higher costs, potentially increasing project budgets.

In summary, ball valves, with their efficient and reliable characteristics, have become an indispensable component in industrial piping systems. Selecting the appropriate type of ball valve, combined with proper installation and maintenance methods, can effectively enhance the operational efficiency and safety of the system.
