Gate Valve

The main components of a gate valve include the valve body, valve cover, gate plate, valve stem, and drive mechanism. Based on the design and application requirements of the gate plate, gate valves can be categorised into two main types: wedge-type gate valves and parallel-type gate valves. Wedge-type gate valves feature a wedge-shaped gate plate design, providing better sealing performance in the closed position, making them suitable for high-pressure applications; parallel gate valves use two parallel gate components that rely on medium pressure for automatic sealing, making them more suitable for low-pressure environments.

In industrial applications, gate valves are widely used in industries such as petroleum, natural gas, chemicals, power, water supply, and wastewater treatment. Their advantages include low flow resistance, broad applicability, high reliability, and the ability to maintain fully open or fully closed states for extended periods, making them particularly suitable as shut-off devices. However, due to the large operating torque required during opening and closing, and their unsuitability for frequent flow regulation, they are generally not recommended for use as throttling devices.

In terms of installation and maintenance, gate valves should be installed on pipelines in the correct direction, ensuring that the medium flow direction aligns with the markings. Regularly inspect seals for aging or damage, and promptly remove internal debris to ensure operational efficiency. Additionally, lubrication and maintenance should be performed to prevent sticking issues caused by prolonged disuse.
